Let's All Calm Down A Bit

Well that wasn't great was it?  It's just like my old Nan would've said "They've dropped a bollock there"  and a bollock they indeed did drop.  On paper it looks like poor a result and on the pitch it wasn't the prettiest of games to watch, but you have to give credit where credit is due, Ghana had a game plan and they stuck to it.  The Black Stars defended like demons, but they had a bit of an outlet and on more than one occasion they nearly hit us with a sucker punch.  Luckily for us the referee was an absolutely pathetic excuse for an official and we got away with one of the most blatant fouls in the area I think I have ever seen, how that idiot has not given a penalty to Ghana after Prince Adu was  so obviously was fouled by Ezri Konsa, I just don't know.  I'll take it though because no matter how slow our build up was at times and no matter how hard we found it to penetrate the African's defence, there was no way Ghana deserved anymore than a draw from that match, and in the end 0-0 was probably just about right.  We of course did have our chances Saka forced a very good save from their goalkeeper, O'Reilly hit the bar, Guehi had one cleared off the line and Harry Kane fired well over from O'Reilly's crossbar rebound.  In the end though it wasn't enough to win the game.  A few players also had poor games for one reason or another, Gordon struggled to create, Madueke struggled, although did improve in the second half when he swapped sides,  Djed Spence offered very little as did Eze when he came on, so all in all it was a bad day at the office, but this shit happens.

The thing is despite that slight setback, and that is what it is, we still sit top of the group with Panama to play, a Panama side that now have to come out and play a bit because they need a win to have any chance at all of qualifying for the next round, which means they won't sit in and put everybody behind the ball, this in theory should suit us and we should have enough to pick them off and top this group quite comfortably.  Last nights game was very frustrating at times, but a draw against Ghana isn't going to be what we remember this World Cup campaign for, I still expect us to get quite far in the tournament, this is mainly because we are unlikely to play many more teams that will adapt the same tactics as Ghana did, the further we progress.  We have good players and we have a decent manager, who I trust to get the best out of those players, and I'm sure we will we see that as we get further down the line.

I aint buying that nonsense of "how could we not beat Ghana" and "we should of put 6 past that them, they're ranked 70 something in the world" Having watched the game I thought it was very obvious after only about 15 minutes that this was going to be tougher than most people (included myself) thought it would be, however I excepted early on that it was going to take a bit of magic from Harry Kane or Jude Bellingham to break down the door, if we had breached the defence earlier in the game then maybe we may have had more chances and possibly even of scored a few more goals, as the Ghanians would've had to come at us if they were losing.  Unfortunately it didn't happen, but we still walked away with a point, so really we are no worse off than we were before the game in fact we are now better off and still in control of the group.

It's funny because when Cape Verde drew 0-0 with Spain, everyone was full of praise for them, saying how good the defence were not to concede to the mighty Spain, but when it's Ghana holding England, England are shit.  Ghana by the way have now got 4 points and have not conceded a goal, yep how comes we couldn't beat that shower of shit.

Anyway we move on and I'm sure that come Sunday morning this game will all be forgotten about and all of a sudden everyone is back in their replica England shirts singing, football's coming home!!

Up the 3 Lions!!
